Mid-Autumn Moon Festival

September 15th, 2009 at 10:34 am by Cheryl Tan under Personalities, Traffic

We’re just a few days away from the official start of Fall.
Over the weekend, I got the chance to emcee the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival at Town Point Park.

It was a celebration welcoming a bountiful autumn harvest.

What a wonderful event that just wrapped up its fourth year! We had great weather, hundreds of visitors, and a spot inside the newly renovated Town Point Park

The Jow Ga Kung Fu Chinese Association of Virginia Beach brought in some good luck with a Chinese lion dance.

The ladies of the Tidewater Chinese School Performing Arts Club entertained us with a lovely ribbon dance.

And I got the chance to stand next to the Moon Goddess.

Until next year–
Hope your year is a lucky one!

Special visitors to Portsmouth studio

September 9th, 2009 at 11:27 am by Cheryl Tan under Personalities, Traffic

We love having visitors to our studio in Portsmouth.

Some wonderful folks from The Village at Woods Edge in Franklin stopped by yesterday.

I think they enjoyed themselves.  It was kinda quiet when they got inside.  It isn’t always so calm!  You may remember, it was pouring down rain, flooding everywhere (or so it seemed) in the a.m.  Our visitors got in right between the morning and Midday shows.  Everyone here was recuperating from that busy morning!

Thanks for coming in!

Welcome, Brownie Troop 15!

Brownie Troop 15 at WAVY TV 10

We recently had some special visitors to the WAVY-TV 10 and Fox 43 TV studio. Brownie Troop 15 stopped by for a tour. The girls had some great questions about our news operation, particularly related to our news gathering.

The highlight had to be the studio, though! They got the chance to sit on the anchor desk and get in front of our “green” screen where our meteorologists stand in front of changing weather maps. We had a great time. Thanks for stopping by!

Groovy grub

May 1st, 2009 at 10:04 am by Cheryl Tan under Personalities, Traffic

We heard some great secrets from a chef in Ocean View in Norfolk this week that would be a valuable addition to your recipe box.  Captain Groovy’s is fairly new, about a year old, but already a hit with restaurant-goers in East Beach.

Chef and owner David Watts was kind enough to make one of his most popular dishes.  His famous fish tacos.  He only serves them on Wednesdays, so on the other nights of the week, you’ll have to make them yourself.  Here’s how he does it.

Get organized!

April 30th, 2009 at 8:22 am by Cheryl Tan under Personalities, Traffic

You know you do it. Open the mailbox, take out the bills, catalogs, and papers, then dump them all on a table. Over the course of the week, that pile grows and grows. Well, that’s what happens in my house!

Our organizing expert, Amy Volk of Simplified Living in Virginia Beach, teaches us how to sort through the paper clutter. Here are her tips. And you can catch Amy twice a month on Fox 43 News at 7.

Live music Friday

April 28th, 2009 at 12:59 pm by Cheryl Tan under Personalities, Traffic

Nope. Not Friday yet.

But, there’s definitely something to look forward to when the day does finally roll around. On Fox 43 News at 7, we’ve had some great times, welcoming musical guests from around Hampton Roads. Over the last few Friday mornings, we’ve been treated to performances by the Hunt Family Fiddlers, Julie Clark, The Michael Clark Band, and Narissa Bond, just to name a few.

Here I am with The Mike Aiken Band

Thinking spring

April 28th, 2009 at 10:53 am by Cheryl Tan under Personalities, Traffic

On Fox 43 News at 7 this morning, we had a really fun segment to welcome spring.  Patrice Dupuis from Bloom in Norfolk stopped by to share her knowledge about flower arranging.  And boy, did the studio smell GREAT!  Kerri and I had a great time learning how to put together beautiful blooms to display in centerpieces in our homes.  Check out the video!
