As the storm continues it’s path offshore the wind speeds will still remain strong for the next 3 hours (Until 8am). Some of the recent wind gusts:

  • Waves, NC: 84mph
  • Rodanthe: 96mph
  • Frisco: 91mph
  • Avon: 84mph

Our winds will start to turn more northwesterly across our region over the next few hours. Regardless, wind speeds will still be 20-30mph across Virginia and inland N. Carolina. 30-40mph for the OBX with gusts still near 60mph. This afternoon our winds will be NNW at 15-25 G30.

I will continue to monitor Arthur and will have another update close to 8am.

Surf Update:

As we are starting to get more light, the swell near Jennette’s Pier in Nags had had 8-9ft waves with offshore winds, the sets haven’t cleaned up yet, but they will likely this afternoon. Be careful and only go out if you are experienced since there will be rip currents.

    Excellent coverage! Congratulations.

  2. Good morning, this morning I was walking my lab as normal zip 23452 and it was really no big deal. this was a good drill but no gold stars. Don’t know why you people get frantic over something like this. Now, if it was a cat-5
then you are saying something. overall sorry, this did not tickle my fancy.
Better luck next time. have a nice day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s because of people with your mind set that more people don’t take these storms seriously. This statement shows that you have never really had to endure a hurricane and the damage that it can cause to lives. For people who have suffered from the TS,or hurricanes we appreciate the media’s coverage so we can get better prepared. Until you have lost a loved one or a home you need to think about what your saying.

  3. as far as the surf goes there will still be idiots going out. Hope if disaster strikes they can hold there breath for a long time. Not being meanful but any more you have a lot of idiots out there.

I do have to give some credit to a portion of the pro surfers we have in our community that know how to handle bigger surf like this. Our surf community is smart and they know when not to go out.

James…Sounds as if your sad we didn’t get hammered by the storm. Dude where’s my board? I’ve been surfing this area since I was 12 years old and I’m now 45 years old. The surfers out there are smart and know the areas they surf but I wouldn’t stereotype them as idiots as some of us have degrees from ODU but still like to get together for a session.
