Some Strong Storms Possible TonightJune 11th, 2014 at 4:37 pm by Jeff Edmondson WAVY under Weather
A few strong storms have developed across Hampton Roads. As of the time I am writing the blog. (At 4:25pm) The only warning was for Sussex and Surry. The majority of the storms will just produce lightening and thunder, but others may be strong enough to produce hail and damaging wind gusts.
What is causing this is a backdoor front, basically a front coming from the north east (versus the west). The marine air is going to keep the atmosphere stable in areas that are close enough to the water. Remember, the watch goes until 10pm.
Slow moving thunderstorms can also cause minor flooding. Most of this has been happening further inland towards Richmond, but that threat could impact our area as well. Keep an eye on Super Doppler 10.
