Plus, there’s a lot going on in Hampton Roads this weekend – from the return of a popular art museum to monster trucks at the beach. Check it out!

Saturday, May 10:

-HAMPTON: Dress your kids up as their favorite super heroes and head to the Barnes & Noble at Peninsula Town Center this weekend. The Marvel vs. DC comics event includes a costume parade, story time, mask-making, prizes, trivia and more activities.

-NEWPORT NEWS: The Virginia Living Museum offers a chance to take a tour of the night sky with its “Virginia Skies” program at the planetarium. It starts at 7:30 p.m., and is followed by an evening of music and more.

-NORFOLK: It’s a big weekend for the Chrysler Museum of Art! After an extensive $24 million renovation, the museum reopens to art lovers Saturday. The expansion adds two new wings for the museum’s growing collection. Click here for a sneak peek inside on WAVY.com.

-NORFOLK: It’s the Norfolk Botanical Garden’s annual spring plant show this weekend. The event is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and you’ll be able to choose from thousands of plants. It’s a great chance to pick up unique plants that you may not find at your local nursery. Click here for more information and to see a list of plants for sale.

-PORTSMOUTH: Interested in local plants and flowers? Join the Elizabeth River Project for a spring plant walk Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Portsmouth. You’ll learn more about native plants and how to begin your own garden. The walk costs $5 for non-members, and is free for members.

-PORTSMOUTH: Fine unique art and crafts in Olde Towne Portsmouth this weekend. The Gosport Arts Festival is bringing in more than 100 artists and craftsmen to the High Street area. Visitors will enjoy live music, art demonstrations, food and more.

-SUFFOLK: Stock up on fresh, local produce and more this weekend at the Suffolk Farmers’ Market, now open behind the Suffolk Visitor Center. Admission is free, and the market is open to the public. Stop by from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

-SUFFOLK: Check out Suffolk’s Main Street Saturday for the Shake, Rattle & Roll Spring Car Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s a free event that will include live music, food, vendors and more.

-VIRGINIA BEACH: Enjoy an afternoon at Town Center of Virginia Beach with the Art & Wine Festival. The Festival is at Fountain Plaza from noon to 5 p.m. and includes tented art displays. Wine sampling will cost $30 at the door.

-VIRGINIA BEACH: Head to the Oceanfront for the SonRise Music Festival, located on the beach at 30th Street. It’s a family-friendly concert featuring a wide range of genres. You’ll be able to enjoy the music for free!

-VIRGINIA BEACH: Does tropical music get you in a weekend mood? The Oceanfront plays host to the PANorama Caribbean Music Fest, located at the 24th Street Park. Saturday, bands compete for the Grand Champion Award, with steel drum headliners hitting the stage. The festival is free and open to the public

-VIRGINIA BEACH: Comedian Corey Holcomb takes the stage this weekend at the Virginia Beach Funny Bone. He was on The Hampton Roads Show Friday, talking about family dynamics and what it means to have a “side baby.” Call 757-213-5555 for tickets and information. Holcomb is in town through Sunday.

-VIRGINIA BEACH: Monster truck fans – head to the beach this weekend! Kalbrones Off Road Monsters on the Beach is between 5th and 7th streets, and features trucks from around the area. Each show is about two hours long.

Sunday, May 11:

-HAMPTON: Meet the Animals at Sandy Bottom Nature Park in Hampton on Sunday. From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., you’ll be able to get to know the creatures of the Nature Center or the Wildlife Education area. The event fee is $2.

-NEWPORT NEWS: The Temptations & The Four Tops are at the Ferguson Center for the Arts in Newport News Sunday at 7 p.m. Enjoy a night of classic Motown! Tickets start at $49.

-PORTSMOUTH: The Gosport Arts Festival features more than 100 artists and craftsmen in Olde Towne Portsmouth this weekend. The festival is set up along High Street and includes demonstrations, live music, food and more. It’s a nice way to celebrate Mother’s Day!

-VIRGINIA BEACH: A weekend of free, family-friendly music comes to a close Sunday at the Oceanfront. The SonRise Music Festival features a wide variety of music and winds up Sunday with a worship service at Neptune’s Park.

-VIRGINIA BEACH: Wrap up your weekend with laughs at the Virginia Beach Funny Bone. Comedian Corey Holcomb is in town performing after making an appearance on The Hampton Roads Show. Click here to watch the segment, and call 757-213-5555 for tickets and information.

-VIRGINIA BEACH: Monster trucks take over the beach this weekend with Kalbones Off Road Monsters on the Beach. Check it out between 5th and 7th streets. It may be loud and exciting, but it’s a family-friendly event, where you’ll be able to enjoy monster trucks from around the area.
