Feel The Heat!

May 8th, 2014 at 8:04 am by under Weather

Numerous songs come to mind with this incoming weather.  “The Heat Is On”, Glenn Frey,Hot, Hot, Hot”, Buster Poindexter, and a few others will be good ways to describe the weather.  Lately our high temperatures have been in the 60s and 70s.  It got a little cool yesterday evening, but otherwise the temps have actually been pretty nice.  Some people, who love hot weather, have been hoping for some heat.  They’ll get it today.

A warm front lifted through the area last night.  So we started our morning with temps in the upper 60s to low 70s.  It was also very muggy.  The front is now riding north into D.C. and parts of Maryland.

With the westerly winds developing today and clearing skies we’ll rise to the upper 80s to low 90s today.

Forecast High Temps

This is what Future Trak shows for the afternoon.  Now today the winds won’t be too strong.  If they stay lighter, then a sea breeze may try to form and cool down coastal locations.  It will be a good day to go to the beach if you can.  Water temperatures are mainly in the low 60s right now.

By tomorrow the winds look stronger and out of the southwest.  If that pans out, then it should stop the sea breeze from forming.  So I put tomorrow’s high near 90.

The average highs is 73.  We’ll be well above that for the next few days.  We won’t break the record today (95), but we will get close to tomorrow’s record (94) if the wind stays up.

It isn’t a brutal heat, but it is sudden.  So if you work outdoors, then don’t take it for granted.  Drink plenty of fluids and take a few breaks if needed.  I didn’t mention the heat index, but it will probably feel like the mid 90s in some areas with the humidity.  We will cool down some more next week.
