Friday Afternoon Storm UpdateApril 25th, 2014 at 2:38 pm by Jeff Edmondson WAVY under Weather
A tornado watch has been issued for the majority of our area until 9pm this evening.
If you go outside right now, you might notice how the humidity has slightly increased from how dry it was this morning. We should see the humidity jump later this afternoon and this evening as a warm front moves across our area. This is going to be the fuel for the storms. The colder temperatures to our west is is the main mechanism to create the thunderstorms.
Around 4-8pm is when I believe we will see the strongest storms. All of these will be ahead of the cold front. If you look at the Future Trak model, notice how the temperatures are still mild behind the cold front, we are only going to see our temperatures drop to the 50s tonight.
Damaging wind gusts, hail and tornadoes are the threats with the storms tonight. After the front passes (around 10pm) then we will see the atmosphere stabilize and clear out in to tomorrow. Tomorrow looks like it will be even warmer than today with highs near 80 in the afternoon.
Stay tuned for more updates on WAVY TV regarding these storms for tonight.
