Tracking The Severe Weather For The AfternoonFebruary 21st, 2014 at 11:40 am by Jeff Edmondson WAVY under Weather
Here is a quick update to add what Jeremy Wheeler wrote earlier this morning. The storms are moving quickly in to our area and across our region we will be seeing the impacts of these strong storms from noon and in to the early afternoon.
In the mid-levels of the atmosphere wind shear levels are still high which means there is the higher chance for damaging wind gusts.
These storms are moving to the northeast at 55mph so any additional wind gust they produce could create damaging wind gusts on the ground. The risks for tornadoes is low, but a small tornado may be possible this afternoon. Frequent lightning is also likely with these storms.
The line of thunderstorms should use up most of the available energy in the atmosphere so redevelopment this afternoon is not looking likely.
Conditions in the atmosphere are still favorable for severe weather over the next few hours, stay tuned for updates on WAVY TV 10 for any new watches or warnings.
