No Winter HereFebruary 19th, 2014 at 8:59 am by Jeremy Wheeler under Weather
The heat is on across the region. Yesterday we managed to get into the low 60s. Today we are shooting up to the low 70s. The heat is even making a run for some of the northeast states.
We started in the 40s and 50s this morning. There was a warm front pushing through the area that prompted some rain showers. In fact there was some heavy rain over parts of northeast North Carolina.
The scattered showers will push out by the midday hours. Then we are looking at a great afternoon. Based off of the latest trends we are looking at high temperatures in the low 70s this afternoon with possibly even a few mid 70s. Either way we’ll have partly cloudy skies.
The cold front on the above map will move through this evening. It will only create a few spotty showers. Then we’ll be dry for the rest of tonight. Tomorrow high pressure will build-in from the west. We’ll be dry, but there will be lot of clouds.
We’ll also be cooler with more of an easterly wind. However, it still won’t be too cold. Highs are forecast to be in the upper 50s to near 60. By Friday another warm front will move into the region. High temperatures will rise to the upper 60s to low 70s. Depending on what time a cold front moves through, we may be even warmer. The setup will be ideal for strong gusty winds. We do have a chance for thunderstorms. In fact the Storm Prediction Center is already saying that we have a higher chance for severe winds on Friday. We’ll see if the potential increases or decreases a bit, but for now I would expect windy/rainy conditions at the very least.
Behind that, we are looking good for this weekend. We will cool down again, but not too much. Highs will be in the 50s with partly cloudy skies. The rain chances have pushed out of the weekend. So I think a lot of folks will be happy about that. Next week it will definitely be colder. Some folks are asking about a possible system next week. I’m not seeing much through Tuesday. The GFS model hints at some flurries or light snow next Tuesday, but it’s just too early. If something does look like it’s brewing, I’ll let you know.
