Warmer Today, Cold and Wintry This Week AheadFebruary 9th, 2014 at 8:47 am by Jeff Edmondson WAVY under Weather
We started our day with a nice sunrise and temperatures near 32 degrees. Now as we look ahead to today, temperatures are going to be making a nice climb to the upper-40s.
Thanks to a southeast wind we should see temperatures in the mid to upper 40s on this Sunday. There is more cold air out in the midwest though, that colder air will be here by tomorrow. A cold front may bring in a chance for scattered showers overnight.
Looking ahead, there have been a few changes to the chances for snow this week. The latest round of weather models have shifted the storm to the south a bit more. If this verifies then we could see less snow.
Rain for the OBX and Snow is possible inland coming up on Tuesday as a new area of low pressure begins to develop.
The low is expected to make a northeast track along the coast which will bring in a chance for snow inland if we have enough cold air available. The timing of the chance for snow will be Wednesday Midday where a quick 1-3″ of snow will be possible for inland locations.
I created that map just so you can get an idea where the snow may fall and now locations close to the water (ex. Virginia Beach) may miss out entirely on this event.
If you do your shopping on Wednesday it may be a good idea to get it done earlier this week as the weather may make travel more difficult.
Stay tuned for updates, Meteorologist Tiffany Savona will be in tonight with a new update tracking this winter weather.
