New Records Set Today & Near Record Lows Tomorrow.January 7th, 2014 at 6:42 pm by Tiffany Savona WAVY under Weather
It was COLD out there this morning and this afternoon! Here are the lows this morning.
The record low temperature this morning for Norfolk International Airport was 13° set back 1884. So we came close, but we did not break the record. We did break the record for the lowest high temperature recorded at Norfolk International Airport. Today was the COLDEST January 7th ever with a 26° degree reading recorded just after midnight.
The cold snap will continue tomorrow. We are looking at near record low temperatures Wednesday morning. Lows will drop down into the lower teens again. The record low temperature for Norfolk International Airport Wednesday morning is 13° set back in 1970. I think we could flirt with the record tomorrow morning. Wind speeds will really come down tonight and only range from 5-10mph, so we won’t have to worry about wind chill values below zero again tonight. But it will still be downright cold with temperatures in the teens. Check out Jeremy Wheeler’s blog for more cold weather tips.
We should crack 32° tomorrow and then we will be back in the 40s on Thursday with 60s returning by the weekend. Seems like you need a large closet in order to keep up with the roller coaster temperatures here in Hampton Roads.
Just wanted to post a couple of viewer photos that really tell the weather story across Hampton Roads.
You know it is cold when there is a coating of ice covering an entire car! Chris Rodriguez sent in this picture from Naval Station Norfolk. This is from ocean spray overnight.
Vincent Gross sent in this picture of the frozen ocean spray in the Outer Banks.
