Looking Dry Today, Surf Update

We started this morning with temperatures close to 70 degrees across the Hampton Roads cities. With the abundance of sunshine highs should climb to the upper-80s this afternoon.

That front could produce a stray shower this afternoon across NE N.C. Temperatures north and south of the front should be close to 88 degrees this afternoon. In Virginia we should see partly cloudy skies and a light west wind at 5-10mph.

If you have been noticing on the weekends from time to time I show a Surfline.com camera. Last weekend I got a chance to tour their forecasting headquarters in Huntington Beach, CA (Surf City). I got the chance to learn more about how the west coast gets its swells and also got a few more tips of forecasting waves out for our area. Seeing the pro’s like Kelly Slater in the US Open was a treat. I did get out in the water and while it was fun, there is nothing better than being on your home turf and surfing the Oceanfront and the OBX. (Plus the water was close to 60 degrees there, eek!)

I hope you got a chance to get out in the water on Wednesday. While I was out I over heard a few other surfers mention it has been a quiet summer for waves. The persistent SW flow we had a few weeks ago that lasted for about 6 weeks off and on helped to keep the flat surf across our coasts.  Well it looks like this weekend 1-2ft waves will be the best we will see. The tropics are looking quiet for at least the next week no groundswells are expected.

Enjoy your Friday!
