Rain Moves ThroughAugust 1st, 2013 at 8:10 am by Jeremy Wheeler under Weather
Well luckily this morning we had a wide area of rain. I say that because there have been some folks recently that have complained about not getting rain amidst daily rain chances and areas of flooding not far from where they live. So today I think we’ll help out those folks that need a little water for their lawns. We had scattered showers and storms early this morning. They grew in coverage between 5 and 7 am.
There was some very heavy rain over parts of northeast North Carolina. I didn’t see any reports, but I’ll bet my favorite hat that there was street flooding just north of the Albemarle. The cause for this rain was a warm front which was lifting through the region.
The warm front will lift north as well as an area of low pressure. A cold front will swing around the low and push through later today. This will cause at least 1 more round of showers and storms from midday through the mid-afternoon. Behind the front winds will turn more west/southwest. Rain will taper off this evening.
By tomorrow the front will move through, and we will dry out. I don’t think we will cool down too much though. This system is moving through pretty quickly. So we really aren’t warming up ahead of it. Nor will we cool down behind it. Highs today will be in the low/mid 80s due to the clouds and rain. Tomorrow we’ll be in the upper 80s with sunshine. See what I mean?
Saturday still looks good with partly cloudy skies and highs near 90. We could see a few storms by Saturday night. Still looks like some scattered showers and storms early on Sunday, but the models aren’t completely agreeing on the coverage nor the timing. So stay tuned if you have outdoor plans.
The tropics are quiet for now. However, we are really just starting to get into the busy season. The peak is in early September. So we have quite a ways to go.
