Heavy Rainfall With Totals Over 4 InchesJuly 11th, 2013 at 5:47 pm by Jeff Edmondson WAVY under Weather
We started to see popup showers around Noon today develop across the Peninsula and also the Southside Cities. At that 2-3pm time frame the thunderstorms really continued to develop and produce some very heavy rainfall.
As of 5:30pm I have not heard reports of widespread flooding, mostly areas with minor levels of water over parking lots and side roads.
Some rainfall totals as of 5:30pm:
- Chesapeake: 4.12″
- Suffolk: 3.57″
- Fentress Field: 3.18″
- Newport News Airport: 1.03″
- Norfolk Airport: 0.98″
- Virginia Beach Oceanfront: 0.69″
- Currituck: 0.60″
There is a Flash Flood Watch for the majority of the area until tomorrow morning.
It still looks like we could see some heavy rainfall tomorrow morning across the Hampton Roads cities at drive time. This model keeps the showers and thunderstorms scattered as we go in to the afternoon.
Tune in tomorrow morning, starting at 4:30am Jeremy Wheeler will have a look at your Friday Forecast.
