Heavy Rain At Times.July 1st, 2013 at 8:17 am by Jeremy Wheeler under Weather
Meteorologist Tiffany Savona wrote a great blog yesterday evening about today’s weather. I just want to add a couple of fresh elements. As she mentioned we are in a Flash Flood Watch for today. It pretty much covers the whole viewing area.
We have had some heavy rain this morning. It was very scattered in nature though.
After a couple of rounds of rain this morning, we’ll see more rain coming in this afternoon. I think the highest chances for rain will be along and just east of I-95. However, anyone in the viewing area can see the heavy downpours. I put the chance for rain today at 70%. So I have not changed that since Tiffany’s forecast yesterday. Rain amounts will vary widely with some folks seeing a few drops and others possibly seeing up to 3/4 of an inch. The weather pattern is still very unusual with the record heat and ridging out west. Big cooling and troughing in the central U.S. There are low temperatures in the 50s this morning across parts of the Midwest. Meanwhile we have been in the southerlly flow since Friday. This has given us persistent warm and humid conditions.
As we go through the week, the jetstream will lift back north into Canada where it belongs. We’ll have high pressure build in from the west at the surface.
So we will see lesser rain chances and hotter temperatures (low 90s) as we head towards the 4th of July. Next weekend is looking good at this time. We might actually see some nice beach weather for 3 or 4 days in a row. Keep your fingers crossed. Don’t do it with your umbrella hand though. : )
