What’s Happening in Hampton Roads

It’s shaping up to be a fun weekend in Hampton Roads! A glimpse back to “Olden Days,” great jazz and even some Shakespeare…. Here’s a look at what’s happening:

Saturday, June 29:

-HAMPTON: Hampton Jazz Festival: Admission is $58.50 per seat, per day, plus fees. Saturday’s lineup includes Heads of State feat. Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill & Ralph Tresvant, Fantasia, George Benson, Forte Jazz Band Feat. Brian Pinner. Get tickets here.

-HAMPTON: Join the Peninsula Association for Sickle Cell Anemia (PASCA) and the City of Hampton as they present the 23rd annual Afrikan American Festival on June 28-30 in downtown Hampton.

-HAMPTON: Archer’s Meadow: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Chessie Roberts and Terry Roberts perform folk rock music. Click here for more information, or call (757) 655-1042.  (216 Buckroe Ave, Hampton, Va.)

-SMITHFIELD: Smithfield Olden Days Festival: The Olden Days Festival was started in the 1980s. This year’s festivities include musical performances by local acts, such as The Rhondels, a car show, and even a ghost walk. Click here for a look at the festival’s full schedule and more information.

-NORFOLK: Did you catch The Aragona Project on The Hampton Roads Show Friday? If not, you can still see them perform at Belmont House of Smoke with Nonviolent Crimes and Two Bars from the Gun at 9 p.m. Tickets are $5 for folks 21 and older.

-NORFOLK: Open Mic Night at the NorVA: Acoustic acts from across  Hampton Roads. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8.

-NORFOLK: Community Youth Event & Bazaar: AAAA Self Storage is hosting a free Community Youth Event & Bazaar. There will be raffles, fun, food, games, etc. It all benefits Camp Man-up. Call 757-852-2379 or email store26@aaaaselfstorage.com for more information. (6562 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, Va.)

-CHESAPEAKE: Southern Gospel Concert:  6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.  Southern Gospel music will be performed by The Master’s Hand Quartet. The event is free and open to the public. (Christ Church, 3216 Taylor Rd., Chesapeake, Va.)

-VIRGINIA BEACH: The American Outdoor Show is being held June 28-30 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for active duty military with ID.

-WILLIAMSBURG: The Virginia Shakespeare Festival: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Directed by Mark Lerman, it’s Shakespeare’s most popular and most produced play.  Click here for ticket, parking, and more information. The show starts at 8 p.m.

Sunday, June 30:

-HAMPTON: Hampton Jazz Festival: Admission is $58.50 per seat, per day, plus fees. Sunday’s lineup includes Jill Scott, TGT feat. Tyrese, Ginuwine & Tank, Bob James & David Sanborn, Steve Gadd and James Genus, Karla Crump. Get tickets here.

-NORFOLK: The “Rawhides” are scheduled to return from deployment on Sunday. Two C-2A Greyhound aircraft and some 35 personnel from Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 40, Det. 3, will be arriving at Naval Station Norfolk Chambers Field. The “Rawhides” have been deployed aboard USS D. Eisenhower since February.
