Easter Weekend Has Some Rain!

March 29th, 2013 at 8:22 am by under Weather

As we go into the weekend the weather pattern is changing a bit.  We started this morning about the same.  Skies were mostly clear to partly cloudy. Lows were in the upper 30s in the metro with low 30s inland.  However, we didn’t see the scattered snow showers to our north like we saw over the past few mornings.

Basically the big upper level trough that has been sitting in place for days is breaking down now.  So for us this means that the clouds shouldn’t be as thick this afternoon, and I’ve limited the chance for sprinkles to the Northern Neck.  Bottom line…It should be a pretty nice day.  Highs will be in the upper 50s.  Winds will only be 5-10mph out of the northwest.

Tomorrow is also looking good.  In fact I think it will be great outside.  Skies will be mostly/partly sunny.  Highs will be in the upper 50s to low 60s.  Winds SE 8-12mph.  The hangup comes in on Sunday.  The models have been showing the rain earlier and earlier.  It looks like an overrunning pattern in the morning before the warm front comes in.  You almost always have to rush the precipitation when it comes to this setup.  So keep that in mind when I show you our computer model.  Future Trak keeps the rain west of us before 8am with a very isolated shower west.

The longer range version of our model has rain starting in the viewing area between 10am and noon.

So again…keep in mind that sometimes you have to rush the models.  Don’t be surprised if we get rain in here by a little before 10am.  So for Easter egg hunts and Church services…earlier is better and take the umbrellas just in case.

Rain is more likely during the afternoon.  Expect widespread showers then through early Monday morning.   It looks like about a half inch of rain with some areas a little more.  That will mostly be rain showers, but a couple of thunderstorms are not out of the question late in the day.  The tough part of this forecast is that Monday looks really nice.  Skies will become partly cloudy with highs in the upper 60s.  Maybe a few 70s.  Any kids on Spring Break on Monday will get a chance to enjoy some nice weather.  The rest of us will be heading back to school or work.  Rain will move in again on Tuesday with a cold front and cooler temperatures.

No huge warmups in sight.  We will cool down the middle of next week with some warming into next weekend again.  Have a great Easter Weekend.
