Budding Trees And PlantsMarch 27th, 2013 at 7:36 am by Jeremy Wheeler under Weather
Yesterday I wrote a blog about the cold weather pattern and how it looks like it will last a bit longer. However… remember, we had a pretty warm December (2012). So I remember seeing some trees starting to bud up in January. It seems to me that now a lot of trees have slowed down their blooming a bit with the colder Spring. They are still coming out. But when you think about when they first appeared, some of them have definitely slowed. Now with many plants and trees blooming, they unfortunately have a chance to receive damage from the cold. You may want to start protecting some of those plants during the colder nights. Here is a site that talks about how to protect your tender vegetation: Protecting plants from frost. Putting down some mulch can also help your plants during this transition period.
In terms of weather we will have another day of increasing clouds, but there will be 2 differences. Yesterday we had some scattered sprinkles and light showers. Today that will be much more isolated. Another difference is the wind. Yesterday the breeze wasn’t too bad. Today the wind will gust up to 25mph out of the northwest. Highs will be in the low/mid 50s.
We’ll pull back about 2 degrees tomorrow as the cold air gets reinforced. Then the warming will resume on Friday into the weekend. I’ve had to put a chance for a few showers into Sunday afternoon’s forecast, but they look to be light and very scattered. Hopefully, we can amend that as it gets closer.
