Green Weekend Ahead?March 15th, 2013 at 7:31 am by Jeremy Wheeler under Weather
Ok so I try and come up with clever titles, and I know sometimes they get a little hokie. NO not a Virginia Tech hokie. Anyway, this weekend we’ll have St. Patricks Day events, the Shamrock Marathon, and ready……..lots of green on the radar. Mwa mwah.
Anyway, enough bad humor. Today we are looking at some great weather. It was a cold start (again) with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s. This afternoon we’ll warm up to the upper 50s with mostly sunny skies. Winds will turn and pick up out of the west-southwest. It should be some great weather as most folks get off of work this afternoon/evening.
Clouds will increase tonight as high pressure starts to shift south. A cold front will start moving down from the north, but it will only make it to Maryland by sunrise tomorrow morning. As we go through the day tomorrow we’ll see that front get closer from the north. There will be a chance for a few scattered showers in the morning with a better chance for rain around midday. All of this near and south of the front.
Now this will affect the Ocean View parade in the morning. A couple models hold off the rain until the midday. Our Future Trak model, however, has rain by about 9-11am.
The GFS holds the rain off until the early afternoon. The Hi-res NAM and the NAM both bring the rain in by the morning. By the way our model (above) shows the rain just north of Norfolk, but that is too close to say there won’t be rain during the parade. With all of the rain we’ve had recently it seems like a safe bet to put your money on the wetter forecast. The rain chances look highest around noon into the early afternoon. Then the rain will push out with another round of showers coming in during the evening as the cold front finally arrives. Highs tomorrow will be in the upper 60s. Then we’ll drop to the upper 40s by Sunday. Spotty showers are expected for the Shamrock Marathon, and then there will be a break. They will return Sunday night. Hopefully, they won’t be too heavy. We’ll start warming back up on Monday to the 50s. We’ll have another chance for showers that day. Then on Tuesday we’ll have a bit of drama. We’ll warm up to around 70 degrees. Maybe even warmer! We’ll have some great weather until late in the day when a strong cold front moves through. This will give us our first good chance for thunderstorms. We could even have a few strong storms depending on how much moisture pushes up from the south. We’ll be talking about that in more detail next week.
Have a good weekend and a safe St. Patrick’s Day.
