LMF: Thursday WrapMarch 14th, 2013 at 12:27 pm by Kyle Bloom under THRS Live Music
Thursday is upon us and it’s been a week since my last post. I apologize but a mysterious virus has taken over my body and it has wrecked havoc on my mindset, it hasn’t been pleasant but I’m slowly on the recovery path. So let’s get started. We last left off on Friday where Logan Vath was celebrating the release of Better Man or Ghost, his debut release. He kicked it off with an appearance on Live Music Friday and celebrated in full force Saturday night at The Jewish Mother in Norfolk. The place was packed and the show started with two great sets from Nicholas Dacherty and Skye Zentz and The Gents. What was really great was that the show started on time and there was very little time between the sets, which kept the music flowing and crowd on it’s toes. Logan, accompanied by drummer Logan Leopold, guitarist/keyboardist Andrew Montgomery (Esbern Snare) and bassist Nate Crawford (Over The Ocean), hit the stage and ripped through an hour long set. The band sounded incredibly tight and you would never tell that this was their first gig together. Such an awesome show and if you missed him this time, you can catch Logan and his band back at The Jewish Mother Tuesday, March 19 opening for Little Green Cars. You can download or purchase Better Man or Ghost here.
Another great local group released their new EP Tuesday. Virginia Beach’s City Voices released their much anticipated Transparency and the best part about it, other than being great, is that it is available to you for FREE. They decided to give it away as a thank you to their fans for the years of support but to return the favor, you should throw them a few bucks. You can grab you very copy here.
One of Norfolk’s favorite bands is getting back together for a one night only performance. The Famous Clever (who have made two appearance on Live Music Friday) are returning to the Mojo Bones OV stage this Friday night. Guitarist Tim Foxx moved to Roanoke last year and is stopping in town for the annual St. Patty’s Day Parade. Bassist Lex Park is moving north later this year, so this might be the last time to see the Clever for a while. The show is Friday night at 9 at Mojo Bones OV.
Kishi Bashi is returning home for one night as part of his very successful SOLD OUT nationwide tour. K has been headlining venues across the country the last two months and selling them out at a record pace. Among the venues he’s played and sold out are NYC’s Bowery Ballroom and the legendary Troubadour in LA. He will be performing at the historic Attucks Theater Saturday and tickets are still available but they are going fast. I’ll be there and I hope to see you there too.
Our Live Music Friday featured artist tomorrow is Kelsey Vivian and The Clouds. I’ll talk more about them tomorrow and if you haven’t heard the news, I’m among the finalist in for Best Media in the 2013 Virginia Reggae Awards. So if you get a second, I’d love to have you vote. Just click on this link. Thanks!
That’s all for me today. I’ll catch up with you tomorrow for Live Music Friday. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MUSIC
