Rain Showers On The HouseMarch 12th, 2013 at 7:18 am by Jeremy Wheeler under Weather
I’ve ordered a round of showers for everybody. Hey no problem. It’s on the house…get it? We had widespread rain this morning. It was mostly light to moderate showers.
Rain should stay light to moderate through most of the day, but it will pick up to heavy at times later this afternoon. In fact we could see an isolated thunderstorm later today. We do not expect severe weather. So keep that in mind when we have the tornado DRILL in Virginia at 9:54am.
Winds will be gusty out of the south/southwest. Winds will be 10-20 with the gusts reaching 30mph. As the cold front moves-in late this afternoon it could spark a couple of those thunderstorms, but it will also pick up the rain. We are expecting another half inch to an inch of rain for this event.
I’m hoping that the rain tapers off by the evening commute. Tonight the rain will end and skies will become partly cloudy. Lows will be in the low 40s. Then tomorrow we’ll have partly to mostly cloudy skies with a couple of sprinkles possible. Mostly likely north of the metro. Winds will be northwest at 10-15mph with gusts to 25mph. Highs will cool to the mid 50s.
By Thursday highs will only be near 50 with some upper 40s in the region. We’ll warm it up again by next Saturday to the low/mid 60s. However, we will also see some afternoon/evening scattered showers on that day. There are some St. Patrick’s day parades Saturday morning despite the holiday being on Sunday. Also the Shamrock Marathon is in Virginia Beach this weekend. So we will fine-tune the forecast for those events as we get closer to that time.
