LMF: The UnXpected

March 1st, 2013 at 12:17 pm by under THRS Live Music

The “F’” in LMF is finally here and that’s Friday!  The favorite day of the week that doesn’t start with an S and the one that I look most forward to because I get to deliver fantastic local music right to your TV and computer screens.  Our Live Music Friday featured artist this week is The UnXpected, a great blues band whose most senior member is a mere 15 years old and formed a year ago after meeting at the Academy of Rock.  Comprised of vocalist/bassist Logan Layman, her brother vocalist/guitarist Cole Layman, vocalist/guitarist Zachary Salsberry, drummer Kevin Marks and keyboardist Tyler Bevington.  They just competed in the International Blues Challenge (along with our good friends Anthony Rosano and The Conqueroos) in Memphis and made a pretty good impression among the seasoned veterans.  They just released a 4 song EP and you can check out their upcoming schedule at their website, www.theunxpectedband.com.  Today, they performed their two original tunes: Daughter Of Blues and Little Boy Blue.  If you missed it, no worries, I got you covered:

If you’re looking to rock out tomorrow, head on down to the Jewish Mother Hilltop and see three great rock bands.  Award nominated bands Os76, who won FM99′s Battle Of The Bands and performed at their Lunatic Luau and One Among Us, who opened up for Buckcherry at The NorVa will join the Subtle Skeptics for what is sure to be a great night of music.  Tickets are just $8 and you can get them at the door.

Next week is going to be an epic week for local music.  As you know, The Last Bison will be releasing their major label debut Tuesday and Logan Vath’s Better Man or Ghost drops next Friday when he appears on The Hampton Roads Show as part of our New Music Friday series, where artists release their records the same day as their LMF appearance.  Get out there and SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MUSIC
