Sleet & Freezing Rain Possible Tomorrow MorningFebruary 21st, 2013 at 6:10 pm by Jeff Edmondson WAVY under Weather
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Southampton, Bertie, Hertford, and the City of Franklin. It is issued from 3am until Noon and what we could see is some sleet and freezing rain. These types of precipitation are the best ways to make travel go from good to bad very quickly. We could see some icy roads tomorrow morning in these areas. For the areas inland, temperatures should be just above freezing which will keep us in the clear.
Here is a look at what the GFS is thinking for at 7am tomorrow (precip type):
It mostly says snow, but what we should see happen is the snowflakes will melt as they fall towards the ground and then the liquid droplets will then re-freeze if the ground temperatures are below 32 degrees.
The SREF has us in a 5-10% chance of seeing Ice Pellets, it didn’t even have anything for freezing rain. We’ll have to still take caution just in case tomorrow.
Meteorologist Jeremy Wheeler is on air starting at 4:30 tomorrow and will give you the latest on this on that newscast.
