LMF: Mae DayFebruary 21st, 2013 at 12:06 pm by Kyle Bloom under THRS Live Music
Today is not only Thursday but a day many people have been waiting for: The return of Mae. The band is reuniting for a weekend series of shows to commemorate the 10th anniversary of their debut album, Destination Beautiful. They will be performing two shows tonight and tomorrow night at the Jewish Mother Hilltop and one show Saturday night at Rocketown in Nashville. Friday’s show is SOLD OUT and there are still tickets available for tonight’s show but they are very limited. I’ve heard that people from all over the world (a couple of fans are flying in from as far as Japan) are converging here tonight and not only will they see their favorite band perform but they’ll also hear some members of the Live Music Friday family open up. Tonight, The Aragona Project will kick things off and tomorrow Over The Ocean will get the party started. Over The Ocean will no doubt be performing a couple of songs from the upcoming album, Be Given To The Soil (April 2). I’m happy to announce that they will be celebrating the release of this gem as our Live Music Friday featured artist April 5. TUNE IN! Back to Mae, this will be their first show in over a year when they toured Europe and even if they haven’t played for awhile they still have been pretty busy keeping up with their solo projects. Lead singer Dave Elkins has relocated to Nashville and started This Is Schematic, self-described as ‘A microcosm within the music and art industry that relies on grassroots growth through community’. Bassist Mark Padgett has been busy behind the console at his recording studio recording The Dahus, Bear Crossing, The Aragona Project and Logan Vath just to name a few and drummer Jacob Marshall has been managing a little band called The Last Bison. This should be a great event and a great way to celebrate a great album.
Tomorrow is Live Music Friday and we getting a taste of the islands with the reggae sounds of RastaMiles, a new band out of Norfolk that have been nominated for Best New Artist and Best Band in the 2013 Virginia Reggae Awards and yours truly has been nominated in the Best Media catergory, so click here to vote. I’ll talk more about them tomorrow.
That’s all for me today, I’ll catch up with you tomorrow and, as always, SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MUSIC
