Surprise! More Wet Weather.

February 19th, 2013 at 8:12 am by under Weather

The weather watchers in the area keep me informed about several things besides the weather.  One topic recently is the wet fields.  Greg in Currituck, N.C. said that farmers are having trouble getting into the fields to put nitrogen on the Winter Wheat.  Donna in Blackwater (southern Virginia Beach) says that her ditches have been full for a while.  Finally, Mike in Whaleyville said that he is tired of muddy shoes from walking in his fields.   We both agreed that it feels like it has been raining quite a bit since November.  Today…surprise!!  We have more wet weather.  We started this morning with partly sunny skies and temps in the upper 30s to near 40.  This afternoon showers will move in, and temperatures will rise to the upper 50s.  We’ll be in the warm sector in-between a warm front to the north and a cold front to the west.

Today’s Forecast Map

We are only expecting about a tenth to a quarter of an inch of rain in the next 24 hours. There may be a few pockets of moderate showers that could drop a little more.

Forecast Rain Totals

Winds today will be out of the south at 10-15mph with gusts up to 25mph.  The cold front will pass through tonight with the last of the rain.  This will turn the winds out of the west.

Tomorrow winds will be west-northwest and this will pull down some of the colder air out of the Midwest.  So highs will only be in the low 40s despite a lot of sunshine.  Quiet weather is expected on Thursday.  Then more rain is on the way for Friday, Saturday, and the update…..Sunday. I don’t think it will rain the whole weekend a.k.a a washout.  But it’s too early to determine when the breaks will be.  Stay tuned!
