LMF: Election Day Of RockJanuary 16th, 2013 at 11:25 am by Kyle Bloom under THRS Live Music
The nominations for the 2nd Veer Magazine Local Music Awards were announced yesterday in an unannounced fashion. Posted at their website late afternoon with no fanfare, word quickly spread and Facebook posts were rapidly updated as bands and musicians saw their names and their works under their respective category. For the second year in a row, I had the honor of serving on the nomination committee along with some of the local music scene’s elite. This year was extremely tough picking nominees as so many wonderful artists deserved to be nominated. Last year, I selected one per category but this year I did something different and pretty much nominated every I could. From the “veterans” to the new kids, I was thrilled to see everyone I picked get a nod. Revery, The Pawn Shop Lifters, Over The Ocean, The Aragona Project, Broken Mouth Annie, Os76, One Among Us, K’bana Black, Skye Zentz, Logan Vath, Jae Sinnett, D*Nik, Shakespeare’s Ghozt, Gina Dalmas and The Cow Tippin’ Playboys, Kishi Bashi, The Dharma Initiative, Anthony Rosano and The Conqueroos, Jackie Scott, Crizti Walsh, Rodeo Clown and The Dahus all were on my nomination list. Now the real tough part comes on who I’m going to vote for but I don’t think I’ll disclose that.
The Hampton Roads Show along with myself received a nomination in the new category “Best Broadcast Media (Promoting Local Music)”. It is an honor to be recognized and an honor to be in a category with Crizti Walsh and The Local Music Show, Paul Shugure and Out Of The Box, Jay Sanchez and Soundcheck, and Barry Williams and Acoustic Highway. I know I can speak for everyone in saying that we couldn’t do what we do without the great music that comes out of this area. My goal is to provide a small opening in the door that will showcase your talents to the public and I think we’ve done a pretty good job in doing that and we’re going to keep on doing that for the foreseeable future. So get out there and vote! You don’t even have to get out, just click this link from anywhere and make your voices heard.
The Veer Magazine Local Music Awards Presented By Starr Hill will take place Tuesday, February 12 at 7p at the Naro in Norfolk. Tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 1 at the Naro. $5 is the cost with all penny going to Hope House Foundation. This event will sell out, so get your tickets early.
On a side note, I was a little surprised to see that this little blog didn’t get mentioned in the Best Digital Media category. A big congrats goes out to the ones that did get nominated especially to The Muzik Lounge. Steven works really hard on that sight and I’m glad to see that his work is getting recognized. Once again, get out there and vote!!! Here is the link in case you forgot the first time around and as always, SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MUSIC!
