2012 Record Heat

January 8th, 2013 at 9:00 am by under Weather

The National Weather Service in Wakefield, VA covers our viewing area.  They put out a recent statement saying that 2012 was the warmest year on record for both Norfolk and Richmond.  The records go back to 1874 in Norfolk, and 1897 in Richmond.  In Norfolk the average temperature for 2012 was 62.75 degrees F.  This just nudged out 1990 which had an average temperature of 62.73.

The warm weather continues into 2013.   We had a couple of chilly days recently, but now we will be well above average for about a week straight.  There are some hints of much colder weather about 10-13 days out, but until then it looks warm.
