Drought And November Temps

Our local weather is pretty quiet for the next few days.  We will have lots of clouds again today with highs in the low 40s.  Other than a sprinkle this morning, we won’t have any rain today.  We have had a lot of rain here recently, but drought in the central U.S. is still a big problem.  Take a look at the latest Drought Monitor which gets updated later this morning.

Because of this levels on the Mississippi River have dropped to historic levels.  In fact barge traffic may be halted unless they get some precipitation in that region.  Check out the story here: Mississippi River/Drought.    This is a huge deal for shipping.  Take a look at the comparison for how much a barge can haul compared to trains and trucks:  Transport Comparison.  It’s amazing.  It’s also amazing that despite our local rain that we still have drought in central Virginia/North Carolina.  On another note… NOAA posted a recent story which stated that, despite our local cool weather, November temperatures globally were the 5th highest on record: NOAA November Temps.
