LMF: 100December 30th, 2012 at 9:35 pm by Kyle Bloom under THRS Live Music
This post is a bit of a milestone as it marks the 100th Live Music Friday blog. When I started this little feature, it was simply meant to focus on our Live Music Friday artists but I knew from the get go that this was something more and that our entire local music scene, whether it was on our show or not, deserved to get their names out there. I wanted to use this forum as a slight opening of the door to get your music out to the masses, to make sure the public knows about your shows and the in-depths of your musical souls. I have worked in or around the music industry for the better part of 15 years and I’ve been everywhere…man (sorry, Johnny) and this area is flourishing with talent like no other and I’m proud that I have the opportunity to spread the word. Here’s to another 100 posts and more in the new year!
Well, if you caught our last LMF show of 2012, then you saw my face and heard my voice. It was our “Best Of” show and since I produce the LMF segment, I was asked to co-host. I didn’t want to do it alone so I though I would ask 96X’s Crizti Walsh if she would like to join us on the couch…she said yes. I didn’t really want to think of this as a best of because I thought that everyone of our 51 artists we had on in 2012 were awesome and since we couldn’t fit them all into an hour show, we had to make a decision who would be on. Each THRS staff member was asked who their favorite LMF artists of 2012 were and the ones with the most votes were featured on the show. I thought it was a good mix of what we had this past year, from rock to blues to funk to experimental. I was really excited that Kishi Bashi stopped by for a little chat. Kishi has had a phenomenal year since he appeared on our show and I can see more great things from him in 2013. You might be asking what am I doing to ring in the New Year. Well, my wife is working so I’m staying at home with the kids but don’t let that be your excuse. There is only one place you need to be tomorrow night and that’s The NorVa. The Fighting Jamesons, Pilot! and Bear Crossing will be literally rocking in the New Year…very loudly! All three of these local bands are beyond awesome and for just $20, you have to be there. Bear Crossing will also be our first Live Music Friday artist of 2013, so make sure you tune in for that.
That’s it for me tonight. Tomorrow will be another special edition as I cover my top ten local songs of 2012. Cheers and Happy New Year!
