Colder Today, Rain Coming This Weekend, Maybe Snow?
High Pressure is still in control today giving us a nice mix of sun and clouds today. It is staying chilly though with highs only in the mid-40s. This area of high pressure is going to fade away tonight with a lot of us seeing increasing clouds. Tomorrow we will likely see the next storm system.
I am expecting the rain to start tomorrow morning before 6am across Hampton Roads. Most of us will see the majority of the rain in the morning with scattered showers in the afternoon. For the Northern Neck, you might have a chance to see some wet snowflakes mixing in.
If the temperatures in the lower levels (850mb) can remain at or below freezing then we have a good chance at seeing snow.
If you see snow, there won’t be enough cold air for any accumulations. For the rest of us expect around 1/2 inch of rain from this system. It will move out on Sunday and we will see partly sunny skies then.
The chance for some real snow for the rest of us isn’t in the forecast for the next two weeks, so I guess we’ll have to sit tight for now.

You don’t think there is a chance for real snow in the next 2 weeks? Have you looked at what the models are showing for Jan 2-3? Looks like a chance there to me. Maybe not all of us but definitely near the area.
I don’t see anything from the GFS or the Euro that screams SNOW. On those days there may be some weak area of moisture that might be a mix, but its not an impressive area of low pressure. I also have a hunch that that Jan 2-3 might not even materialize into much of anything.
Please dont let it SNOW Jeff!!!!!
