LMF: So Far, So Good

Happy National Soundcheck  Day!  I think that is the most appropriate way to mark 12-12-12.  It’s also my 10th anniversary here at WAVY.  When I think back to that day, I was a freelance sound engineer working the odd job here and there and I was looking for more of a steady paycheck when I heard from a family friend about a part-time opening here.  I applied and got the job.  I started off running teleprompter, then moved to cameras and eventually audio.  A year later, I learned the new graphics machine and that was my key to full-time.  I honestly didn’t think I would be here for 10 years but I’m glad I did.  Out of all the jobs I have obtained, the one I’m the most proud of is my role as Music Director.  Music has always been a passion of mine and being able to provide a platform for our local talent to perform is truly and honor.  When I accepted my recent promotion, I wanted to make sure I was able to continue the music role and to continue to promoting your fine work.   It’s a lot on my plate but I’m happy to do it.  Now lets get on with the music!

Head out to downtown Norfolk tonight and support one of your favorite locals.  Over The Ocean ( LMF: March 2) will be at Jewish Mother Backstage along with Gasoline Heart and Death On Two Wheels.  The are set to release their follow up to their fantastic debut Paper House in early 2013 and I expect big things from them in the new year.  These guys are a true gem and I highly recommend checking them out and tonight is a perfect night to do so.  The show is 18+ and tickets are just 7 bucks!

Our favorite rebel rockers, The Pawn Shop Lifters are hosting a holiday food drive this Friday at The Jewish Mother Hilltop.  A great event benefiting The Food Bank Of Southeastern Virginia, a $5 donation gets you in or a donation of 3 non-perishable food items.  All cash and food will go right to the Food Bank..no middle man!.  The boys are also bringing The Shifty South along for the fun.  Great times will be had.

The end of the year is nearing and we have some awesome bands to help us properly close out 2012.  This week, the acoustic rock of Solemn Flight will grace our stage, then country band Boot Rooster (Dec 21)  will get things kickin’ into high gear and will close out the year with our Best Of Live Music Friday show (Dec 28) where yours truly will co-host and I’m bringing along some special guests for the fun.

That’s it for me today.  Now you can continue perusing the online shopping sites for that special gift.  Take it easy and SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MUSIC!
