Dropping Temps…Temporarily!December 5th, 2012 at 8:17 am by Jeremy Wheeler under Weather
A strong cold front is on the way. Luckily we don’t have a lot of deep moisture nor strong upper level winds to go with it. Otherwise we’d probably be dealing with some thunderstorms. Course we could use some decent rain in the region. We are down 0.43″ for the month, but we are close to the annual average of about 44 inches. We aren’t expecting too much rain today, but some scattered light showers will wet the ground. We’ve seen a broken line of light showers to our west so far.
The front was also to our west this morning allowing for Hampton Roads’ temperatures to warm up. Ahead of the front we were in the upper 50s to low 60s, but there were colder 30s and 40s west of Blacksburg.
The front will move through around the midday hours. The chance for rain will be highest (40%) between 11am and 3pm. Then the rain will drop south into North Carolina with a few lingering showers over the southside. Temperatures will drop from the low 60s to the mid 50s. We’ll even see low 50s by this evening. Tonight we will clear out. Temps will drop to the upper 30s to low 40s.
Tomorrow, will feel like Winter. Highs will be in the mid-upper 40s. Winds will be northeast at 10-15mph with a few gusts up to 20mph near the shore. So at times the wind chills will be in the 30s.
At least the cold weather is short-lived. By Friday we’ll get into the mid 50s. Then 60s for the weekend. There may be a few showers on Saturday, but Sunday is looking good.
