Persistent Chilly BreezeNovember 15th, 2012 at 7:37 am by Jeremy Wheeler under Weather
Lately, there’s no shaking this cool northeast breeze around here. It’s a chilly breeze that will keep us cool again today. We have a lot of clouds as well. So highs today will only get into the low 50s. There were no showers this morning, but we did have some showers down towards Raleigh and New Bern North Carolina.
As the showers pushed north, they fell apart. That should be the case for most of the day, but a few sprinkles or a light shower are possible as there will be plenty of moisture pushing up from the south. There will be a better chance for seeing any showers or sprinkles over our North Carolina counties.
Another source for the showers is a weak area of low pressure to our south. It won’t head towards Virginia, but it will push east along a stationary front.
Tonight High pressure will build back in after midnight. So we will have some clearing. Then tomorrow we’ll see partly sunny skies along with slightly warmer temperatures. Emphasis on slightly…
With the persistent northeast winds today through the weekend, we could see some nuisance or minor tidal flooding during times of high tide. No big problems are expected. However, we’ve had the water push up onto parts of highway 12 along the Outer Banks. Overwash is possible even today, and it may be more of a problem Sunday into Monday. The good news is that the latest models show the offshore low (Sunday-Monday) farther away. They still show some coastal showers, but the wind may not be as strong as we forecast yesterday. At least some wind is likely though through the extended forecast.
