Time to Get Moving!

Some really strong efforts this past week from Runners in Hampton Roads. The Grunt Run Chesapeake was a challenging run and Chadwick Shray took the Overall Title with 34:05, followed by Ladies Champ,Michelle Stauffer of Norfolk with a 35:12.

In Norfolk, ODU had its Homecoming weekend and while the home team didn’t do so well at the football game, the ODU Homecoming 5k was great for Norfolk’sEddie Hillwho took home first place with a 17:40. Kimberly Burgess was the Fastest Female in 22:54.

Out at the Beach, the All Access 5k was racing around the Farm Bureau Live as Ryan Carroll torched the 3.1 mile course with an impressive 15:23. He seems to be getting faster! Chesapeake’s Hollie Turner led the Ladies in 19:19. There was also the special “Moes Challenge” where Runners ran a segment of the course, stopped to eat a burrito, then ran the rest of the way. Masters Standout, Steve Speirs showed the strong stomach and the speed with a 20:11. The Ladies Winner was Taytem Riley, of Williamsburg, in 22:41. For their efforts, they got Free Burritos for a Year! Tasty!

Whats Going on This Weekend???

So glad you asked! In sports, some weekend matchups are really good; ones you are anticipating. For Runners in the “757″, this is a BIG weekend FULL of races. Take a deep breath, as we start in Williamsburg with the 4th Annual Crapolfest 5K. This is a HUGE points race for my Colonial Road Runner friends and it’s for a good cause. Staying near the campus, William & Mary has the Color Run at The College 5K. Still streaking on Saturday, is the 5th Annual Bobby Stewart 8K & 5K in Mathews, put on with The Peninsula Track Club. Just a few miles from there, it’s the Noland Trail 10K & Mariners’ Museum 5K. “YES!” This is all Saturday!

Come to the Southside and start in Norfolk with the Tread at the Ted 5K. Just in time to get you in the “Spirit” of the season, check out From Here to Eternity: A Spirited 5K Run/Walk for Norfolk at the Elmwood Cemeteries on Princess Anne Road. Virginia Beach has it’s share of races too, with the Move Your Mutt 5K plus, the Race at the Cape 5k for Cape Henry Collegiate School.

The Oceanfront will come alive on Sunday with the 9th Annual De-Feet Domestic Violence 5K, starting from 17th Street, while everyone is welcome at the Woman on the Run 5K and 1 miler at the Museum of Contemporary Art, or as people in the business say, the “MOCA”.

Going Long!

Many of you are planning for the Fall Long Race. The Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC is a couple weeks away, along with the popular Wicked 10K at the Oceanfront. I’ve been seeing many of you and following your workouts. Hopefully, good times will follow you all wherever you race!

Good Luck this weekend! Maybe I’ll catch you… “On The Run!”
