Series of Fronts…October 10th, 2012 at 4:33 pm by Tiffany Savona WAVY under Weather
Cool, cloudy, and rainy are three words that can describe the weather over the past few days. But…the sunshine is back this afternoon! Our winds have been picking up out of the west and southwest, ushering in some drier air, which is helping to erode the cloud cover. Dry air also warms up very efficiently, so that is why temperatures have been rising into the upper 60s and lower 70s. Our next cold front is slated to move through Hampton Roads tonight. Since most of the energy with this storm system will remain well to the north of us, the front should move through quietly, with Hampton Roads staying dry.
High pressure will dominate our weather on Thursday keeping us sunny and dry, but it will be cooler behind the front with highs in the lower 60s. Friday morning could be the coldest night of the season. We will see clear skies and light winds Thursday night, which will allow for optimum cooling by early Friday morning. Dry air will be in place and since dry air warms very efficiently, it also cools very efficiently. We are forecasting lows to fall into the 40s Friday morning, so have the blankets ready to go!
Get ready for more ups and downs as far as temperatures go! It is Autumn and we typically see one cold front move in right after another. So, our second cold front will move in on Friday. We should warm back up into the upper 60s to near 70° Friday afternoon ahead of our next front. Then highs will be drop back into the lower 60s on Saturday.
