Thanks to Hurricane Leslie and also partially Michael we will continue to see high surf and a risk for rip currents this weekend. If your a recreational surfer/boogie boarder or are competing in this Saturday’s Atlantic Surfing Contest at 1st St Jetty in Virginia Beach the waves will be higher than where they have been this week so far. One of the issues is we have a cold front moving through tomorrow afternoon which could spark some strong and possible severe storms. Ahead of the front we should have wind from the south. On Sunday, after the front has passed, we should have winds from the NW at 10-20mph.

Forecasters from Surfline are expecting waves to be better tomorrow with a swell of 4-6ft with Occasional 7ft waves. On Sunday the north wind may add bump to the wave with heights at 5-7ft and occasional 8ft sets.

Swell Continues Into Early Next Week

Once Leslie starts to move to the Northeast the swell should fade away after Wednesday next week.

Just a reminder the rip current threat will remain high. If you are caught in a rip current remember to swim parallel to the shore to break free from the current.
