Heavy Rainfall/Flooding in Newport News & Isaac Update

August 25th, 2012 at 11:12 am by under Weather

It was a very wet morning across Newport News with rainfall rates at 4 inches per hour! I got a 8.09″ total from our weather watcher in Denbigh, and another 6.15″ total from central Newport News.

From Denbigh

It is part of this low pressure system which is moving north today.

Low moving North

We did get that tornado warning across Norfolk and Portsmouth earlier and also a report of a waterspout over the bay. In the afternoon a punch of dry air will help some of us to get a little sunshine..

Tomorrow I am counting on a comfortable and pleasant day with highs in the low 80s once again. In the middle of the day there could be a sprinkle or brief shower, but the chances still remain low at this point. In the meantime I’ll be watching Isaac so see if it follows its track.

Isaac getting stronger.

It is expected to be a category 1 storm sometime on Monday as it travels over the water. Its path then is expected to travel across the Gulf moving towards Panama City, FL on Tuesday.

Still uncertain where it will go next.

If it does make its way towards Hampton Roads, it will likely be a rain maker sometime by Thursday next week.
