It’s always one of my favorite weeks of the year, that next-to-last week in August: ECSC Week.  The oldest surf competition in the nation turns 50 this year and it’s bigger than ever.  Throughout the years, it has been much more than a surfing contest, it’s more of a surfing festival with skating, BMX, motorcross, volleyball, flag football, an 8K run and my personal favorite, the music.

Not one but two stages will be filled with a supple mix of national and local artist.  The House Of Marley Main Stage is located at 4th Street and the Coastal Edge Stage is located right at the Jetty at 2nd Street.  A great mix of rock, funk, surf and reggae will start filling the Oceanfront Friday afternoon and last until Sunday night.  Fresh off of the Vans Warped Tour, Breathe Carolina will headline Friday evening and Hawaii’s Donavon Frankenreiter will take on that roll Saturday night.  The 757 is well represented with Nature’s Child and Butter taking the main stage Friday with my personal favorite, The Aragona Project hitting the Jetty stage.  Get your ’80′s on with The Deloreans Saturday on the main stage and Sunday, it’s an all-local scene or should I say, an all-Live Music Friday scene as each performer has or will be featured on Live Music Friday.  Audiostrobelight (LMF – 2/3/12) Cheap Thrills (LMF – 7/22/11) and The Right On Band, who will be our Live Music Friday guests September 7.  Make sure you head out there to hear some great bands and watch some great world-class surfing.  Oh, and the best part: It’s FREE.  FREE!!
