Scattered Showers & Storms, Hurricane Forms in Atlantic

August 18th, 2012 at 9:26 am by under Weather

We should see partly to mostly cloudy skies later today with more thunderstorms as a cold front travels across Hampton Roads.

A Few Storms

Its a good mix of sunshine, humidity, and cooler air moving in from the North to help develop thunderstorms later today. We could see a few stronger storms develop this afternoon and evening as the front slowly moves southeast.

3pm Future Trak

6pm Future Trak

At 8pm the Future Trak did bring an area of rain over the Northern Neck and towards Gloucester. We all have a shot at seeing something this afternoon. If you have outdoor plans, if you have them anywhere from the Peninsula and north you should be okay. If south, stay sky aware. Tomorrow dry air will move in which should bring us a dry and comfortable day.

Then on Monday another storm will develop over Georgia which will bring in another chance of showers and thunderstorms. This one will focus on areas north of Newport News including Williamsburg, Gloucester, and the Northern Neck. This will likely bring in some decent rainfall for your area.

A Quick Update on the Tropics:

Hurricane Gordon formed overnight. As of 8am this morning the winds in this Category 1 Hurricane were at 80mph. It is expected to weaken as it moves east.

Gordon May Impact the Azores.

Helene also formed in the Gulf of Mexico and will only bring rain and wind to Mexico’s east coast. There is another wave of energy that is off the west coast of Africa. This may develop into something. We’ll watch it over the next few days.

Enjoy your Saturday,

Jeff if this line of storms to the west reaches us then your forecast for today will be a major bust. These storms are severe and even a tornado has been reported on radar. So ill ask what has changed since yesterday you thought dry and pleasant?

When the weather is like this, and the tropics are going crazy this time of year, they never get it right. They could guess the weather just as well as we could! LOL Never plan your day around a forecast, especially in August/September.
