Update On Ernesto

August 3rd, 2012 at 8:35 am by under Weather

We now have a new named storm, Tropical Storm Ernesto is currently sitting to the northeast of South America moving closer towards the Caribbean.

Ernesto Moves West

This storm is expected to get stronger by the time it gets close to Jamaica, likely on Monday. Computer models suggest that we could see a category 1 hurricane with 80mph winds on Wednesday. I am confident that the track will take it west over the next few days, but beyond that we will need to continue to track this storm in case it starts to turn north.

Besides that storm, across Hampton Roads, and virtually the eastern half of the country we are still in this pattern of weak waves of energy. Recently there hasn’t been any large scale storm systems moving across our area which is why we are going to have another hot and humid day.

Scattered Storms Possible this Afternoon

Most of the storms will likely be closer to Richmond than in our area today, but that is no guarantee. As you know sometimes these storms like to develop across the Peninsula and also across the Southside. Temperatures should stay in the 90s this upcoming weekend as we will continue to have a breeze out of the south.

Enjoy your Friday
