The 10PM News Rush
Last week I experienced night news reporting. The material is quite different from day stories, but the process of obtaining and developing stories was identical. I went up to Williamsburg to shadow reporter, Jason Marks on an identity theft case. Most of the nights I went with the floating photographers to have the chance to ask interview questions myself and learn how to develop better questions by collaborating with the photographers. In the field, I had the chance to interview a Virginia Commissioner, people looking for jobs, Star Trek junkies awaiting a film viewing of old episodes, and Olympic track runner LaShawn Merritt’s cousin and girlfriend. I absolutely love interviewing people, connecting with them, and learning new information. My curiosity and critical thinking skills were highlighted during shoots. I always want to know WHY? After shoots I had the chance to play around with editing. Being on day news and then night news has made me aware of my safety in shoots and to always be alert for leads in stories. These past two days, I have been working in promotions with Kristen Joyal supervising me. Already I have helped gathered WAVY banners, reporter autograph pictures, and other supplies for the Operation School Supplies event on Friday. This event helps needy children obtain school supplies from local donations.
