LMF: Shakespeare’s Ghozt

July 27th, 2012 at 10:52 am by under THRS Live Music

Friday has finally arrived and it’s going to be a hot one.  I plan on spending the afternoon at the beach and decompressing from this week.  I worked a little different shift this week than I normally do.  My normal shift is 4a – 1p and I run the graphics for WAVY News 10 Today (the morning show) and for The Hampton Roads Show, then I put my musical director hat on and listen and read all of the incoming emails and demos from bands and schedule out the Live Music Friday lineup before I go into director mode and direct the noon. Was that a long enough sentence for you? Well, this week our morning director was on vacation so I worked his shift (3:30a – 12:30p) and directed the morning show and THRS. This allowed a little more time for my musical director duties and listen to all of the great submissions I’ve received.  If you haven’t heard back from me yet, don’t worry you will.

Now back to Friday and more importantly, Live Music Friday. Our guest today was Shakespeare’s Ghozt. He’s got a great alternative hip hop sound that blends a mix of different genres of music with a little rap and twists it all around. He’s only been performing for a little over a year and collaborates with a lot of local artists including several Live Music Friday alumnus including Aduro and Broken Mouth Annie. He is releasing a new album called Hi-Tek Lo-Lifes that will be available in August and will be performing this Saturday at The Crust in Williamsburg.  You can check him out here.

As I’ve been mentioning before in my previous post this week, there is a big local show happening at The NorVA Saturday night. Self-dubbed The Battle For Buckcherry, 6 of the best local hard rock bands will duke it for a spot to open up for Buckcherry at their NorVA show (Sat. Aug. 18) I’ve really had a great time writing about each band and getting to know them more and I know this is going to be one hell of a show. The show kicks off at 7p and the 2 bands with the most audience votes wins.  I’ll be out there and I’ll give you a complete wrap-up of the show next week.  The bands that will be performing are Gypside, One Among Us, Pillbuster, 180 Out, Dirty Rock and Seven Ten Oil.  Tickets are still available so don’t miss it!

That’s it for me today.  Stay cool this weekend and SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL MUSIC!  Stay frosty.
