LMF: One Among Us & Gypside
This Saturday, 6 talented hard rock bands from all over Hampton Roads will converge at The NorVa for a friendly Battle Of The Bands competition, where two will emerge as victors and open up for Buckcherry (Sat. August 18 – The NorVa). In anticipation of the battle, I will be previewing each band that will be taking the stage to win your votes. Today, I feature Virginia Beach’s Gypside and Hampton’s own One Among Us.
Brady Roundtree (Guitar), Kyle Maloney (Guitar), Harley Wheeler (Bass), Trai Jones (Drums) and Seth Brock (Vocals) make up Gypside. Kyle and Trai formed this band back in 2010 strolling the halls of Ocean Lakes High with two other friends. When the two other guys didn’t work out, they recruited fellow Dolphin, Brady Roundtree and started writing songs.
Knowing they had a low end void to fill, classmate and jam mon frere, Harley, put down the six string and started learning the bass. After several months of writing songs and practicing their craft, they clicked through the pages of Craigslist for a singer. Seth Brock was invited to a practice. They clicked well together and started writing songs on the spot. Gypside was born. They are currently working on their debut EP, “Bad Idea”. Check them out here.
Gypside’s Favorite Buckcherry Song: Dead
Take the guitars and bass from Vessel, blend them together and top it off with the vocals of Popular Vultures and you get One Among Us. Formed from the remnants of these great local bands, One Among Us quickly hit the local rock scene and never looked back.
They recently welcomed a new addition to the family, drummer Joey DiLuccia joined the band and together with lead guitarist Michael McMahan, rhythm guitarist Tom Dymond, bassist Justin Edwards and dynamic vocalist Ashley Phillips, One Among Us is a force to be reckon with. Soulful melodies mixed with gut-punching guitar licks and an great stage presence will keep One Among Us on your radar for a long time. You can connect with them and check them out here.
One Among Us’ Favorite Buckcherry Song: Crazy Bitch
Tune in tomorrow as I profile two more bands that you can see Saturday: 180 Out and Pillbuster.
