Ok…Now A Heat AdviosryJuly 18th, 2012 at 8:42 am by Jeremy Wheeler under Weather
Yesterday, it was hot outside, but we did dry out a bit as expected. Today all bets are off. We will see the heat along with persistent humidity through the afternoon. Because of this there is a heat advisory in effect for the viewing area today:
We started with a lot of sunshine this morning and that quickly heated up the temperatures into the 80s. Later this afternoon we’ll have partly cloudy skies and the highs will be in the upper 90s. There will be a few 100s inland. The heat index is forecast to rise between 102-108. Winds will be southwest at 10mph. Now, yesterday we also did get a few pop-up showers and storms. I did call for a few in the forecast, but I thought they’d be a little farther south. Basically 5-10miles closer to the state line. The coverage was about 10% of the area, but it was over a very populated area. The rain was very heavy where it did rain. Because we had those isolated storms yesterday, despite some of the drying, I went with a higher chance for storms today with the increased humidity.
Meanwhile the heat and drought continue across a large part of the country. The U.S. Drought Monitor gets updated tomorrow. I will try and get it in a blog, but it usually doesn’t come out until after I post. Stay cool today. Meteorologist: Jeremy Wheeler
