Stifling Heat & Humidity Today
As I am writing this blog lets track the temperature. Right now the temperature is at 85 degrees in Portsmouth with a dew point at 75 degrees. Sunny skies will only mean that temperatures will continue to rise during the day today. Today’s record high was set in 1900 and 1881 at 99 degrees. I am expecting the high temperature to be at 100 by this afternoon. The problem is that the humidity is going to stay high which will keep the heat index near 110.
The counties in pink have the excessive heat warning until 8pm. The orange means a heat advisory where the heat index could reach 106.
An area of high pressure remains in control again today which should keep our skies clear and thunderstorm free, but there is a cooling trend on the way as we look ahead to next week.
The front is expected to move across Hampton Roads sometime Sunday night and with its passage could mean strong and severe weather for our area. There has already been a slight risk issued for tomorrow which includes all areas in Virginia. In tomorrow’s blog we will dive in to the timing and possible intensity of the storms we could see Sunday night.
Otherwise stay cool today, and be careful if your outside….oh and by the way; the temperature is now 87. About 25 mins later.
