LMF: Cassidy and Tess
Today marks two very important events…well, actually three: First, it’s the start of my birthday weekend. Sunday is the day I mark the 13th anniversary of my 21st birthday (gifts are not necessary but well appreciated). Second, it’s Friday and third but most importantly, it’s Live Music Friday. Today we were in for a treat as Cassidy and Tess graced our stage.
The sisters have a dynamic and powerful vocal presence that just takes your breath away. Perfect harmonies paired with smooth guitar and subtle piano make them a force to be reckon with…and it doesn’t stop there. They are currently in the
studio working on both and EP and full length release. The mega-talented Ben Hardesty of Bison is collaborating with them and bringing some of the other Bison gang to join in on the fun so you know it’s going to be good. I also got word a big name vocalist will be stopping in to lend his pipes to the project. I’m not going to drop his name yet as I want to keep it a surprise. They will get out of the studio for a bit to perform an intimate show at Cafe Moka in Virginia Beach Saturday, August 4. I really predict big things coming from them in the future, so make sure you bookmark their website, cassidyandtess.com, to keep up to date with them.
In other happenings around town, our good friend Mike Federali is hitting the studio to recording his LP and you can help him out with it. He has a Kickstarter campaign going and has some really good incentives for you from free swag to a private concert. Help him out by clicking right here.
On the concert front, as I stated before this is the grande finale for The Colley Cantina. Tonight, Deathtrap with Shifty perform and tomorrow (Saturday) is the big send off. Humanoids from the Deep, Great Dismal Swamis, The Kill Circuit, 60 Cycle, The Unabombers and The Bottle Babies will blow the roof off the joint. If you get a chance, head out there and pay your respects.
Sunday, hit the web and tune into YourMusicShow. A great weekly web series that features great local artists in the comforts of the YMS kitchen. 2p is the time and their guests will be Mean Low Tide. And before you tuck yourself into bed, make sure you turn the radio dial to 96x for The Local Music Show. Hosted by the lovely Crizti Walsh of Crissy Babe & The Dastards, this show plays the best of the 757 and in the world of the ever-changing technology, it’s still pretty cool to hear your song on the radio.
That’s it for me. Stay cool out there and if you happen to hit up Tortilla West for brunch Sunday, stop by my table and wish me a happy birthday! Cheers!
