My first day was INCREDIBLE! For the first two weeks I’ll be in the News Department and can I just say I feel like it really is love at first sight?! The news room is filled with so many fun personalities and such a good energy it’s difficult not to get excited.
When I first arrived I sat at the news desk with Typhanny Wiggins and she let me look over her shoulder as she dealt with a crazy amount of emails and picked her choosing as to what news was worth covering and what was not.
Later, I got to attend the daily staff meeting with David Craft, the producer of Fox 43′s 10:00 news. The staff meeting was about taking still pictures and shooting videos for the news. Jeff Myers provided really useful tools to take effective pictures! He told us, ” Everybody’s a reporter when there is breaking news”.
I spent the rest of my night by David’s side watching him put together the nightly news. He even let me have a little bit of input as to what the entertainment topic should have been for the night ( I chose the Ms. USA pageant). David was really great about slowing down and explaining everything to me which I really appreciated. I also met Laura (she produces the 11:00 news for Wavy 10) and she was very welcoming and kind. At the end of the night I got to watch David in action in the booth which was pretty exciting
I never really realized how much goes into producing and how much they actually do. David and Laura made it look easy but it definitely requires them to stay on their toes and remain focused to make sure the news flows well; I really respect them both for what they do!
Quote of the Day: It’s NORDSTROM not NORDSTROMS” – David Craft
Oprah Aha Moment of the Day: A lot more goes into news than what you see. It’s not simply what you see on the screen, there are hours that go into preparing the words and segments that are heard and seen on television.
