Grab the Jacket…Only in the 30s today!

February 12th, 2012 at 8:39 am by under Weather

Can we call this cold air refreshing? Not sure…maybe Bitter is the better term. Temperatures were in the lower 20s across Hampton Roads this morning from that fresh blast of arctic air. With these cold temperatures it was also very windy this morning.

Gusts this Morning

During this Sunday through the morning gusts could be up to 30mph for the tidewater. Along the Eastern Shore gusts might make it to 40mph. This will keep our high temperatures near 39 today. The road conditions should also continue to improve today with the help of the sunshine, but there were several roads with icy patches this morning. Keep an eye on 511 Virginia if you are planning on heading out.

Still windy & cold

Keeping an eye on that area of high pressure near Tennessee is a good idea, because it should arrive to our area tonight. Remember weather with a high pressure system means clear skies and generally calm winds, while it may be nice during the day, but the timing tonight means COLD temperatures. Some areas might be in the upper teens for lows this evening.

Warmer Tomorrow

On Monday, while we will be cold in the morning, the afternoon should bring highs back in the mid 40s so the majority of the snow should be all gone by then. We’ll continue to see temps gradually warm on Tuesday and Wednesday back to the mid0-50s.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Hey guys, hope yall enjoy the snow:D
Just a little curiousity is the NORTH ATLANTIC OSCILLATION going negative for the rest of the winter? and are we going to get more snow in the future? or we’re just going to be dry and mild like the first half of the winter ?

Hello Trevonne. It looks like it will dip negative just for a bit and then go back positive. While I do think we’ll get some more cold shots yet into the first week of March, I also think they’ll all be brief and temporary. I’m betting on a warm spring. Thanks for asking! Jeremy
