Snow possible for the Weekend
The winter weather is still looking good for our weekend as a large storm moves in from the west. Its going to start out as a rain event for this evening across Hampton Roads. We have a good shot at seeing some decent rainfall tonight as the first brunt of the storm moves in.
Rainfall amounts tonight should be close to 1/4 inch. Tomorrow cold air is going to rush back into the area so expect those winds to be howling! Wind speeds should be 10-20mph where some gusts could be as high as 40mph. This cold front will then allow for another batch of moisture to move in. See the snow in Wisconsin and Michigan? That is what will eventually move south and into our area by Saturday night.
In addition to the colder temperatures, snow chances remain high for most of the area, and especially for the eastern shore Saturday night and Sunday early morning.
I am expecting to see the snow arrive close to the dinner hour on Saturday. What we will likely see for the first few hours of this event is snow melting on contact on the roads and grassy surfaces. But quickly the grass will become snow covered and pavement temperatures will begin to drop. Side streets and less traveled road ways may get a light dusting by Sunday morning. The main thoroughfares and freeways should remain wet and clear. Keep in mind a few bridges may become slippery as temps will be in the upper 20s on Sunday morning.
Clear skies will return then on Sunday with most of the snow melting in the afternoon. The weather should also be dry and sunny on Monday.
We’ll continue to keep watch for this weekend and keep the latest here, on our newscasts and also on my Facebook Page.
