Cold Weather Returns Soon
Last night we did get some of that moisture as promised, but it was more in the form of clouds than rain. We did have a few sprinkles or light showers across North Carolina, but the deeper moisture stayed out to sea. High pressure is at the helm today. So we will have lots of sunshine. Both today and tomorrow will be fairly mild with highs in the 50s.

Recent Weather
Tomorrow we will have more cloud cover out ahead of the next cold front. We may even see a stray shower (more likely north of the metro) locally. There will be snow over the Appalachians up into D.C. The National Weather Service in Blacksburg mentioned that it will probably be a wet snow with a lot of melting except for the higher elevations. The D.C. office is talking about 1-2 inches possible up their way. We shouldn’t expect anything more than a few stray showers here. As we get into the weekend it will get much colder. A cold airmass over Canada will intensify and drift southward.

Cold Weekend Ahead
So high temperatures will be in the low/mid 40s both days. It’s possible in future updates that we’ll be talking about highs in the upper 30s on Sunday. The latest GFS computer model hints at some light precipitation on Saturday. Depending on the timing of this moisture, we could see a few sprinkles or flurries. That’s how it looks now, but stay tuned for updates. It’s a big trough and a strong front coming through, but the amount of moisture will be the key to the forecast.
Before I go. I saw on facebook one of the coolest fog pictures that I have ever seen in my life. It is one of Panama City, Florida with fog rising over some tall buildings with the air coming in off of the water. I won’t post the picture, but here is the link: http://www.wdbj7.com/weather/wdbj7-funky-fog-formation-in-panama-city-20120206,0,2418011.story
