70 degree Temperatures in Febuary, Incredible!

February 1st, 2012 at 1:48 pm by under Weather

Its not setting any sort of record, but 70 degrees is very impressive for this time of year compared to where our average is in the upper 40s. I asked some of our Facebook followers earlier today if they have seen any flowers in their gardens and some have Star Magnolia’s in full bloom! While it may look like springtime outside we have to remember that normal lows are 33. So frosts and hard freezes are still a possibility and could even destroy these plants.

Today

That area of high pressure will keep us mild across Hampton Roads for the rest of this Wednesday. Tonight though, that cold front will move in before midnight increasing our chances for rainfall. We may see a stray shower around the 8pm hour but I would expect the heaviest stuff along the cold front.

Cool & Wet tomorrow.

Thursday (Groundhog Day) we will likely have AM showers across the area and especially for the northern neck/eastern shore as a last bit of wrap-around rainfall moves through the area. Most of the showers tomorrow should be before noon and be light and scattered. Temperatures behind the front, will be cooler. Highs going into this Superbowl weekend will be colder…readings will be near 50.

Enjoy that Sunshine!
